Our development process for the first version is now complete. We’re going live on Monday.
Currently, in the first version, users can generate music, cover art, lyrics, and press releases through the studio tools. Then, with a single click, they can send their press releases and albums to media outlets across the U.S. We also provide a website for the act they create, allowing them to build a personal brand. After that, we facilitate the process of getting their albums uploaded to music platforms. Looking at the full picture, I believe we’ve been able to back up the idea of an “operating system” at least at a fundamental level. And we built this in just 12 weeks.
I personally created the first album using RockAgent. I made a 6-track album using all the tools. When the album was finished, I had a smile on my face. The next day, I showed it to a friend at the tennis court, walking him through the whole process. The same smile appeared on his face as well. I have a simple theory: if you want to sell something, you need to be able to trigger emotions. This product triggers that feeling — “I created something, and I can bring it to the world.” Ownership and sharing, together.
When it comes to the target audience, I believe I know exactly who we can trigger this feeling in. Because I’m one of them. I’ve been playing guitar for 20 years, but I had never released a professional piece of music. RockAgent made that possible for me.
We already have the media channels to promote the product directly. So I don’t think we’ll have trouble reaching people. There’s also an interesting advantage there — the people we’ll reach are very likely to be similar to me, because the content those audiences engage with has always been shaped by my own taste. It sounds a bit strange when I say it like that, but it’s true. =D
Let’s see what happens. The road is long. The first phase is done, now the harder part begins. There’s a huge gap between building a product and selling it. Anyone can build a good product, but not everyone can sell it. That’s why our real test starts now.
